Eric Miller (@thecoinchannel) shared the details on his TikTok page.

Miller is an influencer affiliated with the Professional Coin Grading Service, or PCGS.

He said the clue was to look at John F. Kennedy’s hair.

THE COIN

The date to look for is 1964.

JFK half dollars have been made since shortly after the president was assassinated in 1963.

By 1964, they were already being minted.

The rare hair detail is on a “proof” coin from that year.

Proof coins are harder to find, and are shinier.

They are usually made for archival purposes and are not in circulation.

Miller said the key was to look for an “accented” hair design.

Some proof coins from that year have extra detail on Kennedy’s hair.

The extra lines between the part and the ear make it valuable.

Average ones without grades sell for around $75, Miller said.

Getting a professional to evaluate the coin can add to its price.
